SPAM FILTER

Spam Filtering is included with your web hosting account and is configurable from the Control Panel.

We scan all incoming Email from the Internet using a combination of open source and in-house software. Unlike many other Email providers, we block spam before it ever reaches your mail server, improving your Email service's reliability and helping you be safe from a dirty Email world.

In addition to scanning Email for spam and viral traits, we also utilize reliable realtime blocking lists to stop messages that originate from compromised and virus infected Internet hosts.

• Subject Tagging helps you sort Email based on whether SpamAssassin thinks a message is spam, if SPF thinks the message is forged, or if the message contains a virus.
• Banned File Attachments keep potential hostile files from reaching your Inbox.
• SPF Sender Verification helps to identify forged Email and phishing scams.
• Mail bombing detection identifies and blocks Internet hosts that continuously send bogus Email in short periods of time.
• Email Diagnostics allow you to fine tune your anti-virus and spam settings.

SpamAssassin

Using its rule base, SpamAssassin uses a wide range of heuristic tests on mail headers and body text to identify "spam", also known as unsolicited commercial email. The spam-identification tactics used include:

• Header Analysis: spammers use a number of tricks to mask their identities, fool you into thinking they've sent a valid mail, or fool you into thinking you must have subscribed at some stage. SpamAssassin tries to spot these.
• Text Analysis: again, spam mails often have a characteristic style (to put it politely), and some characteristic disclaimers and CYA text. SpamAssassin can spot these, too.
• Blacklists: If a message gets past our first set of real time block lists, SpamAssassin may still discover the source of the message is listed elsewhere.
• Spamvertised websites : Websites that host fake information forms or malicous spyware infected web pages can be detected by SpamAssassin

As the message is tested a running score is kept. If the score exceeds a certain threshold (typically 7.00) SA will tag the message with {SPAM?} in the subject line and pass it on to you. This is ideal for setting up a message rule (filters for Eudora) in your Email client to move messages with a subject containing this text into a separate folder for later review.

You can also configure SpamAssassin to simply bounce the message, so you don't have to see it.

SPF

Email forgery is a growing concern, many people fall prey to messages apparently from financial institutions, auction sites and even their own Internet providers. SPF is a new technology gaining acceptance throughout the Internet. SPF can help identify forged EMail and can tag a message with a subject of {FORGED?} if a message is confirmed to be bogus.

Anti Virus

In addition to spam filtering, all Email is scanned for viruses, hostile HTML and Javascript exploits and common phishing scams. Virus signatures are updated regularly.

Aggressive real-time blocking

Our custom anti-spam software analyses Email flow and dynamically limits remote internet hosts from sending bucket loads of spam. This helps to prevent Email attacks and mail bombings, while still letting legitimate Email come through.
